Sunday's New York Times headlined a story of a 22 year old woman paralyzed as a result of eating meat contaminated with a virulent strain of e coli. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/04/health/04meat.html The story traces the route of the different elements that eventually merge to create commercial frozen patties. The meats come from different countries, different parts of the cow, and different types of animals. The procedures, the unwritten agreements and the lack of oversight provide ample evidence that food safety is not high on the list of priorities of those who provide the nation's beef. For years we ground our own meat until I discovered that Costco grinds its own meat, and tests it regularly. If you are going to purchase supermarket or big Ag ground meat, make certain that you cook it thoroughly for the sake of all those in your care - both human and canine. | ||
